The Iowa Class Battleships were created in the 40s in response to the rising need to Aircraft Carrier Escorts. They were made to be fast and agile but not tough and strong. Marcboy99 has built two versions of this class which will be explained in more detail below.
With the outbreak of World War Two and the declaration of war against Japan, the U.S. was in desperate need of new ships after the attack at Pearl Harbor. The answer was a class of Battleships able to escort the new U.S. Carriers. This was the beginning of the Iowa Class. They were designed to have nine 16 Inch Mark 7 Guns in Turrets of three and have a secondary armament of twenty 5 Inch Mark 12 Guns in Turrets of two. These vessels also had a Anti Aircraft Battery which consisted of 80 40mm Bofors and 49 20mm Oerlikons. These ships had the honor to escort the new Essex Class Aircraft Carriers.
